Tempe police received a call shortly before midnight Monday about a vehicle driving in the wrong direction, according to Tempe Police Department spokesperson Natalie Barela.
"The wrong-way driver was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on Price Road, on Frontage Road adjacent to" Loop 101 when they hit a vehicle going southbound on Price Road, Barela said.
The car driving the wrong way had four people: the driver, the child and mother and another passenger.
The driver, an unidentified juvenile male, according to Tempe police, had non-life-threatening injuries from the collision and was in custody. The child's mother also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The passenger and toddler were pronounced dead at the scene, Barela said. The toddler was unrestrained.
The car going southbound was driven by an unidentified woman. She was in critical but stable condition, Barela said.
